NME - analysis

NME Magazine
NME (new musical express) is a popular music magazine that has been being publishd weekly since 1952. It has been mainly aimed at the punk rock scene, indie, alternative.
NME always follow a house format where there is always a set layout on the magazine cover. NME always have the 'NME' title in the top left of the magazine with a red strip on the layer beneath it. It uses yellow writing on this red layer. The name of the band or artist is always in bold to attempt to catch the audiences eye and draw them into buying the magazine.
There is always a big image in the centre of the magazine which is of the featured artist that week. The main features of the magazine are going down the left vertically with the main things in bright red and the other contents in black writing. This enables the customer/ viewer to know what they are buying and what is inside the issue.
I could interpret these layout techniques in my own piece of work by using the house format with a set layout just different images and information for each issue. I will also make the contents of the front page clear, so that customers know exactly what is for offer. Also as this is a music magaizne this could be relevant with feee poster offers of bands and artists in special edition magazines.
