Analysis' of media products

The film above is 'Looking for eric' it is about a man trying to reach his dream of finding and meeting Eric Cantona. It shows the main character setting himelf a goal of finding Eric Cantona and is going to look for him till he succeeds. The film seems to blend real life, fiction and a mix of documentary reportage within a fictional story line.

This is relevant to my film as it is about following dreams and reaching goals. It is also about one person setting himself and goal/ target and doing all he can in his power to achieve that goal or target.

Setting/ Mise en secne

• Ordinary working class setting - this is signalled by the interior shots of the household, where our protagonist is set during the establishing shot. He is surrounded by friends, and the mood is upbeat, happy.
• The mise en scene of the film is urban - from domestic interior shots to city wide settings.
• A darkness and/or sombre mood is cast early on. We soon sense that our protagonist is involved in what might be a domestic/romantic struggle, and has to meet the challenge set. This is where Eric Cantona, playing a cameo role, appears to help 'save' or guide our protagonist to 'calmer waters.'

Non Diagetic sound

• String guitar gives soothing, upbeat, friendly feeling. This accoustic guitar connotes honesty and plain speaking, This signifies a film in the realist tradition (about a real life person) - friends are surrounding our protagonist in his own home.

Camera Shots/Angles

• Establishing shots of city - Pans across the city to show emphasise the working class backgroud by the tall buildings, dull scenary. This adds to the viewers idea of the film being set in a working class background with a gritty feel to the product.
• Close ups - close ups on the main character in different situations and scenes shows the different emotions our protagonist is going through. This makes the viewers want to watch the actual film not just the trailer as it is showing the viewer that the main character is not only going to go through a physical challenge but an emotional challenge aswell. The close ups on the woman and the child in the pram also gives the impression that the film will follow a story that will involve her. Possibly a romantic story
• POV (Point oF View) shot Point of view shot focusing on the poster of Eric Cantona on our protagonists wall. This shows this is the main characters role model/ Hero. Someone he looks up to.

Make up/ Costume

• Ordinary clothes- emphasises the working class background of the characters.
• They are not glamourous items of clothing... far from it, normal peoples clothing. Shows how it is more of a realist film.
• The woman character in the trailer looks like a normal housewife. nothing stands out to be eye catching quite a boring costume.
