This particular film is called 'Goal' it is a film that follows one character (santiago Munez) on a journey from childhood to adult life on his way to reaching his lifelong ambition of becoming a professional footballer. This realates directly to my idea of my film due to the way in which I am focusing on one specific character trying to reach a goal he sets himself and a dream to make himself a famous successful person/ football player.
Mise en scene
- Changes as film follows him through his life
- Each clip represents different times during his life
- represents the reality of the situation our protagonist's situation
Narrative
- Linear narrative - follows chronological order of the film
- highs and lows - most dramatic scenes of the film, this draws the audience in and makes them anticipate whats going to happen
- Doesn't help audience understand what he has had to give up in his personal life - which is possibly one of the reasons they would want to watch the film
Non-diegetic sound
- Soundtrack
- Popular piece of music people will recognise the track as soon as they hear it
- Makes the audience react in a way that makes them instantly know that he is on his way to success and is beginning a life of fame and fortune
- Sychronous (action follows the sound- cuts to the beat)
Ideology
- Dreams
- protagonist follows his dream and 'GOAL'. This gives the audience the feel of everyone can do anythign if they set their minds to it
Camera work and editing
- The editing is very fast paced with lots of rapid cuts
- Cuts to black - this emphasises the dramatic changes in his life and time periods
- Text give the audience additional information that you wouldn't otherwise have
- Closeups on main character (Santiago Munez) shows how hard he is trying, how much he wants to reach his dream and ultimately succeed in life
Audience
- Certificate - UK 12A
- Football lovers
- male orientated audience
- Doesn't leave many unanswered questions
Harry - you must deconstruct the media product from the point of view of:
ReplyDeleteMise en scene/setting
Narrative (including sub-text)
Body language
Ideology - class/gender/race narratives
Film stock and tone/mood created by the choice of film stock
Well don - some thoughtful comments.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to pay attention to issues regarding ideology. This could add an extra layer to your own product as well.
The whole way the 'Third World' and poverty is represented in a film like this one is important. Is Britain filmed from the point of view of Britain as the country to strive towards, and to get as far away from his native country as possible. What ideology does this narrative support?
In what ways are themes of patriotism and loyalty going to emerge in your project? What would you expect, and can you possibly subvert your audiences expectations (shock them and make them think beyond their usual accepted views?)
